Over coffee within the In One show flat, Chinachem Group CEO Andy Cheung recently chatted with some staff members about the company and its future direction.
Having already served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the company for two years, Andy has been taking on the role of Executive Director and CEO since September, commenting at the time, “I’m excited to lead Chinachem and want to thank the Board of Directors for having faith in me to shape our future.”
Leading a team of more than 3,000 colleagues, Andy concluded:
“Foremost among Chinachem’s many strengths, are our dedicated and talented team.”
Emerging from a period of transformation since 2020, Chinachem has entered a phase of consolidation, focusing on becoming a best-in-class real estate conglomerate. Leading efforts to generate and secure sustainable growth and value, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role as the captain of this diverse conglomerate. Commencing his career in Canada, he moved through leadership roles in infrastructure and real estate investment. Most recently, he was a key member of the management team which led the transformation and development of the locally listed Link REIT.
Chinachem Group’s business covers significant portfolio of commercial, residential, and industrial buildings, both in Hong Kong and overseas. Talking about the growth of the Group, Andy emphasised, “As we have embarked on a new journey, there will inevitably be continued economic headwinds and unexpected challenges along the way. So accordingly, our immediate area of focus is to build organisational strength with a view to better equipping ourselves to manage future challenges effectively. This will include reinforcing our governance framework and business processes to enhance decision-making, while improving operating efficiencies and reporting effectiveness.”
In response, Julian Ding, the new joiner assuming the role of Group Director of Finance for Nina Hospitality, noted, “I’m very optimistic, as I believe we’re well-positioned to adapt to evolving market trends and challenges. And there will be continued growth in our hospitality sector, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and technological advancements.”
Ben Fung, Senior Associate Director of IT, underlined Andy’s desire to create robust policies and put in place a code of conduct to guide organisational behaviour. “We need to create a culture of collaboration, but with accountability. Identify our key performance drivers, and establish appropriate measures for success or failure. Doing this will give us a shot at becoming a market leader.”
Reflecting on her decades-long career trajectory through the organisation, Connie Chan summarised her feelings. “Chinachem is indeed a company where I have been making progress and maximising my potential. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to rise from an officer to the current General Manager of the Sales Department. Here, if you work hard, work smart and are willing to put in the effort, don’t mind the hardships, and constantly learn from the strengths of those around you, you will one day see your dreams come true.”
