Every hero has a story

He hesitates when asked if he has a favourite, then says, decidedly, “No. Every hero has a story and their own special spirit.” What about their superpowers? “No character can win on their own; collaboration is still vital to victory,” he laughs. “Even the Avengers need to work as a team to win.”

Young at heart, Angus’ genuine joy and sense of play is matched by his appetite for adventurous innovation and an authentic passion for what he does. His voice rises in excitement when he talks about creative ideas he has implemented at Pine Care, including the Senior Teacher Scheme, where residents teach other residents a skill, craft, or even sport. “People forget that the elderly are integral members of society and still have much to contribute,” he says. “We’ve had an eminent radio journalist who shared how to go after the biggest scoops.” Another project in the pipeline is a nostalgia gallery at Kwu Tung North New Development Area, where residents will learn about the history of the village through traditional furnishings, cultural customs as well as experience sharing by original Dills Corner residents. “This will give them a sense of belonging as they set down new roots,” Angus explains.

This passion to serve remained through university and his first two jobs, his first at PricewaterhouseCoopers and his second at Mapletree Investments. The capabilities he built in his lucrative financial career - strong analytical skills, ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and deep financial management expertise – now enable him to do his eldercare work objectively and dispassionately in what can be full of human interest industry. Under Angus’ leadership, Pine Care has scaled up technology integration, facilitated collaboration with other healthcare, medical and aged care institutions, enhanced operational processes and improved transparency, fostering greater trust and confidence among residents and their families.
