Nina Park Unveils Wood Fossil Experience Centre and Light Show Programme

The Wood Fossil Experience Centre at Nina Park brings a memorable edutainment experience to visitors of all ages, with exhibits from the Jurassic to Pliocene Epochs supported by multimedia content and interactive technology.
The newly-opened Nina Park in Tsuen Wan, created by Chinachem Group, has unveiled a new facility and an immersive light show. The two-storey Wood Fossil Experience Centre, a one-of-a-kind edutainment facility of the Park, boasts 16 exhibition zones and leads visitors of all ages through the history, science and beauty of the fossilisation process with interactive exhibits supported by multimedia content and the latest technology. In addition, a vibrant light show now illuminates the Park every evening with multimedia effects featuring a dazzling array of colourful, vivid lights synchronised to music, welcoming local and overseas visitors with free entry.
Wood Fossil Experience Centre
The structure of Wood Fossil Experience Centre includes four colourful geometric boxes, resembling a geode (hollow rock formations) in nature,and provides unique exhibition zones where students areoffered an inspiring journey and STEAM learning opportunities.Through its16 exhibition zones,visitorscan gain core knowledge of wood fossils, progressing from what fossils are – and the differences between fossilised wood and rock – to the evolution of plants into trees, the transformation from trees into wood fossils, and how to decode the living conditions of a tree and the history of Earth from a piece of wood fossil. There are also sections to introduce other collections of wood fossils from around the world and the geological treasures of Hong Kong.The exhibits are creatively curated with wide use of interactive media and artistic touches to showcase the beauty of wood fossils, bringing visitors a compelling park experience that captivates while also enlightening and educating.
In one section of the Wood Fossil Experience Centre can be found the Hexagon Cinema, a cosy theatre with hexagonally-shaped seating simulating the volcanic hexagonal rock columns of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. It has been specially designed to bring enjoyment to younger visitors with its animated video about Nina Park.
To foster sustainability, the Wood Fossil Experience Centre is equipped with an experimental wind catcher feature which catches the prevailing eastern and southwest summer windsto provide natural ventilation while keeping the Centrerainproofed. Reduction of the normal reliance on air conditioning not only conserves energy but also minimisesany drastic temperature changes between indoors and outdoors.
Nina Park Light Show
At night, the spectacular outdoor“Nina Park LightShow”helps enhance and transform visitors’ experience. Stagedfive times each evening in the Time Plaza, athalf-hour intervals starting at 7:00pm, this four-minute show incorporating visuals, music, lighting and smoke effects isanawe-inspiring way to concludea visit to Nina Park, creating adelightful romantic feeling under the glittering stars.
New programmesof the Light Show will be introduced periodically.Thecurrent programme, titled “Symphony of Time”,is a poetic light show story that commences with the infinite canvas of the sky, symbolising eternity and leading to the cradle of life, the Earth. Various life forms spring up in the sea while trees mark the passing of time through their year rings. The show illustrates how humans have studied the cycles of the sun and moon,and gazed at the constellations in the night skythroughout history to comprehend their relationship with natureandunravel the underlying relationship between time and space.
