According to Lau, the core issue of major environmental problems is the over exploitation of resources beyond necessity. This is why the organisation focuses on tackling the issue of plastic waste and reducing waste at its source. “Avoiding waste generation is the first step. Recycling is only secondary.”
In 2021, an astonishing average of 1,269 tonnes of plastic bags, plastic/polyfoam dining wares and plastic bottles were discarded in landfills every day, which is equivalent to the weight of about 85 double-decker buses. Lau encourages people to bring their own water bottles, reduce the use of disposable cutlery, and support businesses that use less plastic to leverage the power of consumers.
