When you think of property developers, buildings likely come to mind. However, for Chinachem Group, the focus is different. They see people.
Business Analyst Manager Heywood Cheung, who works in the CEO’s office, explains, “My first impression before joining was that it was old and traditional, but in my first few weeks, I saw a lot of investment in new platforms. I could tell they were working to transform business decisions in many ways.”
On a mission to reshape the company, the Group has been careful to select new talent not only based on qualifications or industry experience but also with a strong focus on attitude and vision.
Angie Chung, General Manager of Chinachem Group’s successful Central Market regeneration project, notes that the management team and leadership are able to respond with agility. “I’m so happy to see things come to fruition at a quicker pace,” she says.
The Group is currently rolling out its first structured training program for recent graduates. The Management Associate Programme (MAP) will recruit young future leaders and provide them with a well-defined developmental roadmap. Beginning in the CEO’s office, at the heart of forward planning, the two successful candidates will engage with a wide range of projects and initiatives, offering tremendous scope to shape the future of the business.
Ed Li, who joined the company in 2021, describes the environment as “very open to different ideas” and encourages everyone to share their thoughts. He also highlights a crucial point: “Not everyone is going to be one hundred percent correct every time, especially on the first try. But management understands this and encourages younger people to try things out and gives them the chance to succeed.”
It’s this entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with the company’s vision, that is attracting a new generation of talent. These are the leaders of tomorrow.
