Chinachem Group Teams up with Olympians

A panel sharing session “MIND MATTERS.” is held at Nina Park today as the inauguration of the partnership between Chinachem Group and Mind The Waves to kick-start conversations on promoting mental health across generations.
Chinachem Group (Chinachem) has announced a partnership with Mind The Waves, an organisation founded by Hong Kong Olympic swimmers Stephanie Au, Camille Cheng and Jamie Yeung, to help the city’s youth better navigate mental health challenges, whilst injecting positive energy into the community.
A panel sharing session “MIND MATTERS.” was held at Nina Park today, with attendance from representatives of Chinachem Group; Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health Dr Lam Ching-choi; and Olympians and Mind the Waves Co-founders Stephanie Au and Camille Cheng. This engaging event also marked the inauguration of the partnership, as well as serving to kick-start conversations on promoting mental health across generations.
Participants covered a wide range of topics related to mental health and shared their experiences on how best to deal with stress and anxiety from their perspectives as a business leader, a specialist in mental health, and world-class athletes respectively. The individuals were united in their collective desire to boost mental wellbeing throughout society, but with a particular emphasis on its younger members who were most affected by the pandemic.
Dr Lam observed that, “It is important to address the mental health issues of our society, especially within the youth community. I support efforts for the public to engage in physical activities and to acquire knowledge of mental health.”
“As athletes who compete at the highest level, with the stress and expectation that brings, we understand firsthand the mental challenges young people in Hong Kong face,” Au and Cheng told the participants. “Mind The Waves exists to build a broad community of young people who take a positive approach to their personal mental wellbeing. We are excited about partnering with Chinachem Group, and together aim to help people change the way they engage with their own mental strength. Through our efforts, those who engage will feel the benefit, and in turn this can become a wave of positivity which will radiate through the city, enhancing as it goes.”
After the sharing session, the group explored several drum techniques, demonstrating how beats and rhythms can reduce stress and negativity, under the guidance of Jason Leung, the coach of Chinachem’s drum team. These activities took place in the serenity of Nina Park, the urban park with the largest wood fossil collection in Asia which was created by Chinachem and opened to the public last year. With its thoughtful design and tranquil greenery, the Park is an urban oasis perfect for city hustlers to wind down and enjoy different activities to find peace at their own pace.
The partnership between Chinachem and Mind The Waves is an exciting development in promoting mental health awareness and wellbeing in the Hong Kong community. More events of the collaboration will be announced later.
