Our home and our heart are in Tsuen Wan; many of the colleagues who contribute to our success, call this neighbourhood home too. One Beat, One World: Connecting Through the Drum

Chinachem Group is supporting the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for the second year to present the "One Beat, One World: Connecting Through the Drum" series. This initiative harnesses the power of drumming and collaborates actively with Olympic swimmers' charity Mind the Waves and various organisations to promote mental wellness while creating positive values and energy for society.

    Chinachem has developed REACT to help you to help yourself and the planet, to better recycle the inevitable waste we create in our daily lives. And along with our friends at The Green Earth, we’re offering hints and tips on how we can all reduce our waste footprint. Key to getting the community involved is by making it fun and relevant to our daily lives in Hong Kong, so we’ve created a series of events, initiatives, and programmes to engage, entertain, and inspire.   • #ddHK Vivid Tsuen Wan Guided Tour by Chinachem Group

    Chinachem Group, rooted in Tsuen Wan, has always prioritised community development and supports the "Design District Hong Kong – Vivid Tsuen Wan" creative programme organised by the Tourism Commission. We have specially crafted 24 complimentary guided tours to help participants explore three art installations created by local and international artists. Our guides will also introduce the upcoming opening of Nina Park in late 2023, offering participants the chance to experience the refreshing charm of Tsuen Wan.

  • “A Date with Hing Chun Alliance” Exhibition at Central Market

    Chinachem Group has long been committed to the conservation of historic architecture and intangible cultural heritage, while realising ‘urban-rural integration’. By utilising local resources and potential, we help co-create public spaces and communities under the approach of ‘place-making’. By fostering the sustainable development of communities or historical buildings, we hope they will resonate emotionally with people so that our most cherished traditions and culture can live on to the next generation.

    Following the revitalisation of the Grade III historic building in Central Market, we are also supporting the preservation of the precious Hakka culture in Hing Chun Alliance – one of Hong Kong’s oldest rural villages built more than 300 years ago.

  • Urban Climb 300m+: the climb that inspires

    Chinachem was the lead partner of the fundraising initiative Urban Climb 300M+, where paraplegic rock climber Lai Chi-wai take on the challenge of climbing Nina Tower, Chinachem’s landmark headquarters in Tsuen Wan and the tallest building in New Territories.

     

    This project raised more than HK$7.7 million, including our matching donation of over HK$3.8 million, to the “Get up and Walk” programme of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in the LKS Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed). Funds raised from the programme will go towards O&T to support spinal cord injury patients, as well as patients with mobility issues, to “walk again” with the use of exoskeletons.

Serving local community

  • Showing care for the elderly

    As we battle through COVID-19, elderly people are amongst the most vulnerable members of our community. Chinachem is committed to making Hong Kong a more liveable city. In addition to building age-friendly community projects and supporting research on healthy ageing, the Group encourages its employees to show their care for the needy.

     

    In 2021, we collaborated with the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association to launch the “Care for the Elderly Ambassador Programme”. This three-year-long programme is designed to foster a caring and healthy relationship between the city's elderly and youth, especially during the pandemic.

     

    This programme comprises three main activities: Home Visits to the Elderly, Care over the Phone and School Talks on Life Education and Elderly Care. We hope to continue contributing our efforts to meet the needs of our community in the years ahead.

Promoting social integration

  • A gift of learning

    The onset of Covid-19 led to the mass closure of schools in Hong Kong, immediately forcing organised learning online. However gaining access to computers and the internet, often regarded as universal, can be very challenging for underprivileged families.

     

    On hearing about the plight of many primary and secondary school students unable to engage in e-learning because of a lack of technology, Chinachem stepped in to support. With the assistance of the Rotary Club of Kai Tak, the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Single Parents Association, we donated laptops and internet connections to 53 children living in Shek Kip Mei and Sham Shui Po. Members of the Chinachem IT team visited the students, assisting them with setup, software and basic training on their new computers.

     

    For everyone involved in this project, this was a valuable reminder of how much we take for granted. For too many, the things we regard as basics rights, are unattainable luxuries.

  • "Who are you gonna call? Covid busters!"

    Providing persons with disabilities opportunities to work is a key component to these individuals long-term financial needs and mental health, and the disabled are typically at greater risk during pandemic. To assist with this, Chinachem sponsored Fu Hong Society’s social enterprise to provide free local-invented long-term disinfection coating spray services for 20 day service centres by a team comprising persons with and without disabilities. This initiative not only creates safer environment against Covid-19, but also offers the disabled job opportunities, allowing them to help themselves as well as those in need, and make it a win-win situation for society.
