Introducing our new 《LIFE+》 Magazine

Foreword

Writing this introduction to this issue of LIFE+ has special significance for me.  It marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life as I prepare for retirement in August. I am grateful to everyone at Chinachem Group for walking the talk towards a community focused, people centric business organisation, guided by values of substance and integrity.

Establishing and maintaining principles of this kind, I believe, is good for business as well as one’s soul.  They give one peace of mind, contribute to a clear conscience, and play an important role in improving one’s mental wellbeing.  And being aware of how we feel, and I don’t mean physically, is something I think we could all get better at.

In this summer issue of LIFE+ you’ll meet several people who align with this and work to enlighten our community of its importance.  I recently had coffee with Olympic swimmers, Stephanie Au and Camille Cheng, who have established a fresh thinking new charity, Mind The Waves.  Their ambition is simple, to encourage predominantly young Hong Kongers to focus more closely on their mental health.

Our city also requires an enlightened attitude toward recycling, and within this issue you’ll meet circular economy champions Harold Yip and Nigel Lo of Mil Mill.  They share their challenging but rewarding journey turning waste into reusable resources, a story of dogged perseverance.

Reflecting a similarly stubborn but characterful personality, the neighbourhood of Sham Shui Po is known for its densely populated, vibrant streetscapes.  So, in this edition, we take you on a journey through its eclectic collection of individual shops, artisans, artists, and cultural corners.

To end, back where I began, I am looking forward to a new phase of life shared by an increasing number of my fellow citizens.  Our population is ageing.  But fear not, because there are individuals such as Queenie Man who see opportunity in this.  She is reimagining the future of growing old with style and energy.  And with characters like her designing our future, I know my health and wellbeing are in good hands.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues, collaborators, and my family for their wonderful support throughout my seven years at Chinachem.  I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to watching the Group continue to contribute to the future of our amazing city.
